On October 30, long-time LMC member Unibilt Industries together with Vista Village, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, broke ground on a first-of-its-kind community in southeast Columbus, Ohio. Vista Village is a unique community development that includes 120 tiny homes, a community center, and a 2-acre park.
The Unibilt-designed tiny 420 sq. ft homes with front porches will provide transitional living for members of the homeless community. In addition to the tiny homes that provide safe and stable housing, Vista Village also provides a range of support services to empower residents towards economic independence and self-sufficiency for long-term well-being.
Vista Village describes its work as an “innovative model centered around creating a supportive community where those experiencing homelessness can heal, thrive, and build a better future.”
Unibilt’s involvement began after an introduction made during the construction of another significant affordable housing project in Columbus.
The first phase broke ground on October 30, 2023, and the team at Unibilt Industries say this type of work is only just beginning. “We’re already getting inquiries from other communities to do something similar,” says Greg Barney, President of Unibilt Custom Homes.
“Everyone at Unibilt is very excited and grateful to be working with Vista Village to fulfil a need for this type housing in Columbus.”
