Mike Flores joined The Detering Company as General Manager of Houston Lumber on April 4, 2023. Mike has over 30 years of experience in the building materials industry, and he assumes the role as Detering expands into lumber products. Mike will oversee the opening of Detering’s new facility, and he will be responsible for all Houston lumber operations.
“We are thrilled to have Mike join The Detering Family. His experience and expertise will be invaluable to our growth,” said Del Westmoreland, Detering Company’s VP of Houston market.
Mike began his career in Austin, Texas at Payless Cashways, which took him to both Dallas and Cincinnati, OH. In 2016 Mike moved to Houston to work for Hope Lumber, which was acquired first by ProBuild and then Builder’s First Source. While serving as general manager at BFS Mike ran the largest lumberyard by volume in the United States, integrating the BFS and BMC Conroe yards.
“This is an amazing opportunity for me. I look forward to helping The Detering Company grow its Lumber Division. I am also excited to work for a company that genuinely cares about its people,” added Mike Flores.
Mike has been married for 26 years and has four children. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, and bowling, all of which he does with his kids. Detering is thrilled to have Mike join its leadership team.
