Resiliency isn't just something Matt's Building Materials believes in - they truly live it. In 2022, a fire destroyed their Pharr location. Everything was lost. Heartbroken over the situation, but grateful their team was safe, they knew the real heart of their business lied within the people. Once the dust settled, Matt's Building Materials team began to rebuild the store and their vision for the future.

Today, Matt's Building Materials has rebuilt what they lost, earning a Beacon Award for Best New Store! This award recognizes innovation, design, and execution in launching a new hardware retail location. The Beacon Awards will be presented during the Independent Home Improvement Conference for its 14th year honoring standout performers in the hardware retailing industry. Matt's Building Materials is a force of strength and resilience in the hardware industry and is very well deserving of this award. They will be recognized during the Independent Home Improvement Conference's Awards Gala in Orlando, FL at the end of the month.

The business has been delivering quality products and creating meaningful relationships since 1969, when Hurricane Beulah damaged homes all over South Texas inspiring the foundation of "Matt's Cash & Carry Building Materials." Ira Matt was the original owner with a small team, eventually expanding the business to two store locations and increasing sales on the daily. In 2002, Danny and Diana Smith took ownership and became co-owners with Luis Mancillas and Oscar Sandoval, officially renaming the business to "Matt's Building Materials." With over 50 years under their belt, their store caught fire in 2022 destroying the memories and value it held until that day. They began new construction in 2023 and the Grand Reopening of their store took place in April 2024 celebrating with friends, family, and the community.

Matt's Building Materials has been an LMC Dealer since January 2021.
