The lumber and building materials industry is prone to eminent change: changes in pricing, availability of materials, and project timelines. These changes are some that we know all too well.

Solano County, California experienced a drastic change when a well-loved lumber business closed its doors ten years ago. Contractors and "Do It Yourself-ers" alike were left with few options for quality materials and services. Luckily for the city of Vallejo, Big Creek Lumber just opened its doors!

Big Creek Lumber acquired O’Connor Lumber and Ace Hardware in Vallejo. Joe and Rose Pierre owned O'Connor Lumber for years. Joe's family started O'Connor Lumber three generations ago and each generation has had its share in operating the family business. After years in the industry, Joe and Rose were ready to enjoy their golden years and start their well-deserved retirement.

The Pierre’s were looking for a buyer who would maintain the tradition and values that their family had established with their business. That is where Big Creek Lumber, a family-owned business came in. Kevin Dussault, Retail Division Manager at the Big Creek Lumber Vallejo location noted in a press release, “Big Creek Lumber is pleased to have found a great fit with O’Connor Lumber. We like that it is a turn-key, well-run yard with a knowledgeable team that we can grow into the future. We plan to keep most things the same and are excited to also offer a full-service lumberyard with more lumber selection and a larger inventory”.

Pierre further noted in the press release, “Rose and I really enjoy working with Big Creek and their staff. We are so grateful that our employees are being given the opportunity to work for Big Creek”.

Keeping in line with the standard that O'Connor Lumber set, Big Creek Lumber promises not only to maintain its history but expand on product selection. Big Creek will supply a full selection of lumber including plywood, Douglas fir, redwood, moldings, and roofing materials just to name a few options. Customer service add-ons include customer credit accounts and an expanded delivery zone.

Big Creek Lumber's story begins in 1946 with the father-brother trio, Frank, Bud, and Lud McCrary, after the boys returned home from WWII. They started a small sawmill, then a small lumbermill. 76 years later, Big Creek Lumber has over 200 employees who process 100,000 board feet of lumber each day. Big Creek Lumber now has six locations with the addition in Vallejo. Other locations include Santa Cruz, Watsonville, Paso Robles, Atwater, and Half Moon Bay. Big Creek Lumber prides itself on using sustainable business practices such as utilizing forest management services and increasing timber growth all while providing its customers with quality materials.

Big Creek Lumber will continue O’Connor Lumber’s previous affiliation with Ace Hardware and plan to further expand its hardware selection and add custom windows and doors by next year.

An LMC Dealer since 2006, we are proud of Big Creek Lumber’s expansion and for maintaining the values implemented by O’Connor Lumber.

Congratulations on the new location, Big Creek Lumber!
